Cast Common Milkweed Seed Studs

$ 88.00

An exact casting of a tiny common milkweed seed. The original seed was planted in a meadow after the mold was made.

Asclepias syriaca: common milkweed is native to North America and an important species for pollinators. The genus name Asclepias commemorates Asklepios, the Greek god of medicine because many plants in the milkweed family have been used for medicinal purposes over time. Milkweed loves the sun and helps rehabilitate areas that have been disturbed.

Milkweed is the host plant of monarch caterpillars. Compounds present in milkweed plants (and especially high in common milkweed), glycosides, make monarch larvae and adult butterflies toxic to birds and deter predation.
